Microfest w/ Apparat and Adam Freeland

As part of the Brighton Fringe Festival we created an interactive piece for the Micro-Fest event featuring German techno extraordinaire Apparat (BPitch Control)and breakbeat king Adam Freeland (Marine Parade), on May 2nd, 2010, at the Concorde 2, Brighton.

In collaboration with trapeze artist Persephone Pearl, we created a performance which explored the concept of computer cognition as well as the perceived associations we, as humans, often make.

Using real-time movement data read from a camera, feature points of the performer were tracked and fed into a program allowing it to made evocative assumptions about particular points. It then displayed associated text next to them. Sometimes the text seems appropriate, and other times completely irrelevant. Despite the frequent erroneous assumptions the audience can not help but perceive some kind of intelligence behind the system.
